Today, I had a deep productive conversation with one of my student athlete friend about the life of an student athlete. I argued that student athlete does not put alot of effort towards their academic. My friend denied it and explained to me some of the responsibilities of an student athlete that I really wanted to share. Here are some of my thoughts after our conversation.
Most people connect a student athlete to having beneficial priorities. They think that professors grade them easier and expect less from them. They think that a student athlete can miss classes and turn in late homework without getting points taken off. The truth is, a student athlete is just a normal student who has an athletic skill that he/she practices. Imagine, how hard it would be to balance school work with social life plus another sport? I think that it is already pretty hard for me to balance my social life and school work. It is difficult to really understand the responsibilities of a student athlete without actually being one.And I think it implies to everything. We cannot really understand something without really actually being one. My friend told me that being a student athlete is not as easy and enjoyful as it looks. They sacrifice a lot to be able to compete in their sport. They have less freedom than other students and extra responsibilities on their shoulders.
I felt really sorry and bad for saying to my friend that they don't put as much effort towards academic as their sports. But, after our conversation, I got a new look towards them. And again, it showed that how stereotypes can form within people when someone doesn't really know about others.

If we have a right to partake in our country’s political process and elect our leaders, then we have the obligation to participate and ensure that the best leaders are chosen.

St Patrick's Day —— reminds me my jounir high school uniform

I just saw Melissa's post about St Patrick's Day and it reminds me the fun memory of wearing thoese cabbage or flog like uniforms in my jonior high school. It was ALL green! And we had to wear it for at least 4 months every year for two years!
I guess that is why I never have any green clothes after that because I am done!
I borrowed a picutre from my classmate's class photo.
haha don't laugh. It's probulary the worst looking chinese unifrom in the country or mabe in the world!
I guess the hole reason why they made the uniform like that was it was convenient, comfortable, symoblic (one of a kind in the city). And we had to wear uniform everyday in the school so we never had to think about dess up all we were focusing was just study study study!

Native American Culture_ should be protected!
When I was doing research paper and reading all the materials about how the government using education to strip the Native American culture, I was all mad.
I remember in the history class we learned that native american might be the fisrt one landed here. They had a life here before Americans came here. And then Americans took the place as their own and kicked the Natives out. I don't know if it is ture but if it is the story sounds really sad, isn't it?
And the U.S government later presented so many polices like force sending native kids to boarding school so that they cand be breed in a American way and know nothing about thier own langue and culture.
Is that even moral?
As the original or ancester of this piece of land, they should have respect the natives and protect thier culture instead of put them in jeopardy!

research paper some thoughts
Remember 2 years ago in the english language program I was struggling wirting 200 words essay, I could never imnnagine I would wirte a 15 pages paper some day.
It is very interesting when you take a look back and see what you were going through and the improvement you have made.
I remember 3 years ago in China, only 60 words were required for an english essay.Even it was like 2 or three sentence and it was still a pain in my ass for me at the time. And now if you want me to wirte an "essay" for 60 words. Well, I was going to say, still pian in the ass but in a different way.I don't even know how to stat and how to finish the essay. It feels like I will be finished just after I write my first sentence. Haha
I thought the class was going to be very painful that was why I leave it at the last two quarter of my community college life. But really, I was wrong. The class was not painful at all and it was fun! I really really like the way that Melissa teaches. Makes my feel comfortable and respected.
The reseacher papaer was enjoyable. I enjoy research about my topic and knowing more about what is going on and the history. And Melissa sent me the document and it really cheer me up. That meant a lot to me. Some times, a teacher won't realize that but a little thing that a teacher does may means a lot to the student.

What did we learn this quarter?
I think about this question everytime I get done on something. And it helps me to know where do I improved where I still need to work on, did I put all my efforts on it?
First, when I think about disadvantage or discrimination the first words that pop into my head is African American,Racism. Asian. I never thought about anything about native american before. And this class expanded my knowlege and opened a new prespective on me. Right now if I think about disadvantages or discrimination I will start to think about those minorities in each area.
Second,I read and wroted a lot in the class which the mian purpose of taking this class is to improve my wirtting. Practice makes perfect. Melissa pushes us to read and write and I think it is how we improve.
Third, I like all the group works and peer works. It gives me chance to know other people and I always learn a lot from the conversations with other people.
And the last I would like to make a little confession. Although most of the time I push myslef to work hard but I some times lose motivation during the quarter. Like I was late in class, I even missed the due day for the outline and it made me feel really upset. I should have check the due days on Angel regulary.
And it is great to work with Melissa and all the classmates in the class. Melisssa is so cool that she keep encourages us which made me have the courage to keep wirting.(It is very important for a international student, it would be horrible if a teacher keep saying my work is horrible cuz learning language itself is hard and needs to be encouraged.)
